Assessing Technology-Based Resources for Differentiation

Three current technologies that can be used to appropriately support differentiated instruction and enrich student learning styles at the Middle School level are:

Chromebook is an essential tool in these times, especially for students who like technology. With this tool, we can access all the information we need on the internet. This tool is not expensive for students since the school provides them for use at school.

The educational websites that are used in schools are also beneficial. On these websites, it is easy can find enough information on the relevant topics in the class, interactive activities, videos in English and Spanish, and multiple tools for teachers to create adequate evaluations and extra activities. The websites are open to all students and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week for use.

Blogs are a perfect option for interacting at a distance. No matter the subject, this technological tool is of great help to students since they will be able to put their imagination into practice by capturing their ideas, comments, or suggestions. Blogs used in education are completely free for students, and they can use their phones while they are out of school to have access to them.

These three technologies will be differentiated by levels (hot, medium, mild), so each student will have activities on the website or the blog according to their level, and it will not be frustrating for them; on the contrary, by working by levels, each student will advance at their step, and they will feel successful when they achieve an activity at your level.

The students will be divided into groups in the classroom, so it will be easy for me to help them by level according to their needs. I will be using posters on the walls to help them in the activities and use them as a reference. This will allow each student to advance at their own pace. I will use brochures with key ideas for each essential standard to help students in class, at home, and during evaluations. Not all students learn the same way nor with the same techniques, so the variety of referrals and help in classes is key to student success.

The educational websites promote learning with a wide variety of activities and videos. In these, the students can find support apart from the class instruction. The students have access to these at any time they need them. This allows the students to review before the evaluations or to be able to answer their tasks correctly.

Chromebooks are a great acquisition after the pandemic. Before, it was hard to get access to one at public schools. Each student in the school has free access to one in each class. This allows teachers further to promote the use of technology in daily learning. As is well known, students love technology, and the use of technology in lessons promotes their learning, as students will be excited to use a Chromebook to learn, review videos, answer homework, or practice interactive exercises.
